(6,409 posts)Most politicians from both major parties are connected to some big business, big money, special interests. Sanders is not because he is a progressive, so that's why I support him. However, let's be careful about painting with a broad brush. Even the worst, most evil politician in the country will draw some lines when it comes to taking money from pedophiles, neo-Nazis, convicted criminals, etc. So you need to look at the contributors and supporters and draw specific conclusions about which specific interests are being served. In the case of Hillary Clinton, its fair to accuse her of "being in the pocket" of the pipeline people, even though she would argue its not true. Its a reasonable accusation founded on specific data. However, it's not fair to generalize that she is a class traitor, serves the interests of the rich and powerful, etc. until you can cite examples that show quid pro quo on a broad spectrum of issues. If half her money comes from advocacy groups, what we call "special interests," which ones are they? Does that include the AFL-CIO? The ACLU? NAACP? Yes, I agree with Sanders that politicians should stay away from special interest money altogether, but I also want to know which particular special interests are giving money to a candidate before I draw any conclusions regarding class warfare.
