In reply to the discussion: I'm not laying off shit! [View all]LiberalAndProud

I (personal I) don't remember complaining. I think it is a valid and important conversation to have with our candidates.
I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute; where no Catholic prelate would tell the President -- should he be Catholic -- how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishioners for whom to vote; where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference, and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him, or the people who might elect him.
...
I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish; where no public official either requests or accept instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source; where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials, and where religious liberty is so indivisible that an act against one church is treated as an act against all.

Santorum said "makes me throw up."
"Because the first line, first substantive line in the speech says, 'I believe in America where the separation of church and state is absolute," the former Pennsylvania senator said. "You bet that makes you throw up."

Romney should have to address this issue. I would be intrigued to hear how much influence the Mormon Church might have on national policy if he were to be elected. You seem, to think it's impolite to ask the question. I think it's negligent not to.
On edit: Food for thought?

"Bishop Woodbury stated that the reasons for the excommunication would be that I am going in a different direction from the church, and I am in opposition to the Mormon Church."
Added Callahan, "The bishop gave the analogy that if I were a member of a gay and lesbian organization and collected signatures on a petition supporting Proposition 8, that organization would probably kick me out, and suggested that the Mormon Church was about to do that to me now."

It goes to the heart of his belief system. A complete lack of character, etc.

There is simply more to lose by attacking his faith than to gain. Wise choice is to

My criticism is of people who think mocking religious symbols or practices = political commentary.
