(9,289 posts)ignores the concerns of POC, LGBTs and women. Regrettably he has been suggesting that POC, women, LGBTs, and immigrants are dividing us, and that their issues are divisive and so should be set aside in favor of the economic issues that can unite all but the 1%. He is blind to the fact that no economic progress can be made without first addressing issues of racism and sexism. Yes, his record on those issues is stellar, and he has consistently spoke about those issues, but that's the problem: he needs to speak TO these communities and not just ABOUT them. It is hard to avoid the conclusion that he sees POC and women through the lens of white privilege and male privilege, and that is why he has been downplaying their concerns. Clinton has evolved on these issues and so enjoys greater support among minority communities and women. Bernie appears to be stuck in the past, too sheltered perhaps in his nearly all-white state of Vermont. That being said, I should point out that I am a Bernie supporter.
