too many weight classes, the weakest heavyweight division in history, and far too few fight clubs and gyms. Add the bullshit from promoters and too many managers, and it is definitely a problem.

At the same time, we really are in a golden age of welterweights -- including the junior- and super-welterweight (junior middleweight) divisions. Also, there are some outstanding talents in the lower weights.

One of the big problems is the lack of solid boxing writers in newspapers. They used to be so important in promoting interest in the fights. Few papers have a boxing writer these days. (The biggest regional paper in our area here no longer does; when there are cards, I write the articles, and let a couple guys on the sports staff take credit.)
