15. For regular size trucks you can no longer get big engines

GMC or Chevy half ton and three quarter ton trucks now only have 350 engines. My 1999 GMC Suburban has a 454 and the young men I know are jealous that this old lady has a truck with a bigger engine than they can buy!

Since my Suburban is mostly used for hauling stuff when it is used a big engine makes it work more efficiently. Hauling a 4000 pound horse trailer with four horses and a full load in the truck needs a big engine. Some of the newer model trucks don't have enough power to get any acceleration with a full load even if the chassis can handle the weight.

I thought maybe it was that manufacturers were no longer making the big engines but apparently not. They've just downsized the engines to make their small truck fleets gauge better for the EPA. To hell with what the people that need a truck for a working farm that can actually pull a load and not take ten miles to get up to speed!

I'm glad that my Suburban is the last truck I will ever need. Since we seldom need to use it anymore we can probably keep it another ten or more years without putting another hundred thousand miles on it - which would still be a lot fewer miles than we got our of our first Suburban.

They do tax cars that don't get the 'required' gas mileage. It's call the gas guzzler tax. beaglelover Aug 2015 #12
