7. My first wife told me "All of your thoughts are prayers."

While I am not religious, I understood "prayers" to mean fervent hopes. I pondered this more than once, and began to try
to control what I was thinking. If a "bad" thought, one that wished harm to others, or one that elevated myself above
others entered my mind, I sought to dismiss it. When I was younger, this reflection was more difficult. I became angry,
like most people do at times, I felt self-centered thoughts about personal gains. But now that I'm almost 65, controlling
my thoughts has become almost second nature. I want my "prayers" to be good ones. I believe I have expelled hatred
from myself, and fear, which gives rise to hatred. I'm still working on it.
I loved the quote from the Sufi poet.
