105. if Trump is a Republican strategy, There's a Downside

Aug 2015

For those who think the Trump effect is to our disadvantage, allowing Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, et al to avoid scrutiny, there's a downside to that and it's "visibility." If Trump hogs the spotlight for a serious amount of time, it lessens the time they have gaining "top-of-mind" awareness. That's a serious problem for bush, because the public image defaults to his disastrous brother. For Rubio and many of the others, there is no significant degree of name recognition. Either way it's a problem.

I see the posters' points, but I think the republicans are in a situation where there is no place to go.

Also, as lunatica points out, there is a financial downside, too: "the others are going to run out of money and never even get to 10% approval! Donations will dry up and leave them blowing in the wind."

Consequently, Trump is to our advantage. As stated upthread, "The more oxygen Trump draws, the hotter the fire's gonna be when he self-immolates" (Jester Messiah).

------------------------

Now, on another topic, I would just like to say that this English teacher loved the descriptive writing about Trump's character. It seems certain that many of our DU posters did not shirk the descriptive writing section of their English classes. Another was the vivid imagery. There were many examples, but these were particularly amusing:

Trump embodies their own ignorant, narcissistic and competitive personalities. He's everything they want to be themselves. (Shankapotomus)

Trump symbolizes their own cheap, crass, bigoted, linear thinking. The fact that he made a lot of money via in-the-dirt deals and brute language, proves to them that science, education and a hunger for truth -- is stoopid. (AikidoSoul)

he's rude, crude, inappropriate, condescending, arrogant, nasty, mean, egotistical, phony, hollow, misogynistic, racist, low brow, up-his-own-ass, despicable, piggish peace of human filth ever to be wasted printing on skin....he's a perfect face to show the nation how despicable the party he wants to represent is, and if he takes their followers with him in a 3rd party run so effing be-it. We could run a melted wedding cake and win. I'd love to see him up against Bernie. The Great Humble VS The Great Fumble. (Jack in the Green)

By being a flamboyant, disgusting, bullshit artist he is actually managing to make insane republicans look slightly less insane. He does damage to the process and turns populism into a joke. The sooner trump slithers back into reality-tv land the better. (kenfrequed)
