11. Individuals groups within the movement have specific demands and issues they're working on

One of the big things that people don't seem to realize is that the group that calls itself Black Lives Matter is a small (and seemingly relatively inactive) part of the Black Lives Matter movement (think of the way many gay rights advocates used the equality sign without intending to specifically endorse the Human Rights Campaign). The movement consists of numerous organizations, each with their own goals and their own strategies for achieving said goals (just like particular unions have particular demands).

For instance, of some of the groups here has been focused on ending "jump-out squads" (stop-and-frisk type stuff). They are also working on the issue of body cameras (right now the big battle is how much footage, if any, the government can hide). They're working on specific issues, have specific demands, and have been making progress in getting our elected officials to address them. You're not going to hear as much about this stuff, however, since it's not attractive to the media, and it's not attractive to the prolific commentators online who are more interested in flame-wars.
