(9,314 posts)He said the release of the hostages had already been negotiated on his watch and they were literally sitting on a plane just waiting for the take-off. Reagan had quietly intervened into those negotiations behind the Carter administration's back. Iran had agreed not to let that plane take off until Reagan had taken the oath of office so he (Reagan) would get the credit for bringing them home. There was no limit to the depth of Reagan's willingness to deceive.
On the other hand, there are also no limits to the depths of the Carters' humanity towards not just the citizens of this Country, but to people around the world as well. Often called a national treasure, Jimmy Carter is indeed just about the greatest President I personally have observed.
My very best wishes to him and Roslyn during this time of illness.
