3. John Roberts left DC to volunteer to help George W. Bush* in Florida during the 2000 disaster

Roberts was a Constitutional expert (so it was said....) As in all elections, to the victor belongs the spoils, and the reason Roberts sits on the Supreme Court today as its Chief Justice was just George W. Bush*s way of thanking him for all his support during that time of crisis.
