There has been a series of stories in recent weeks coming out of Rome that I have trouble following. The gist is that various factions in the Vatican are leaking info on each other, and the Italian press is going wild. I don't have the time or energy to follow all the arcane details, but my takeaway is that the shit is hitting the fan big time and everyone knows it.

John Paul the Great? I think a lot of birds are coming home to nest. There was a big rush to canonize him, and he got as far as Blessed, but someone put the brakes on the process.
