what was (supposedly) the dress code, yet other comments were made about how there were outfits that were much worse just outside on the school yard.

The outfit itself is fine, IMO. I personally just don't prefer the cut of the skirt. The fabric pattern is all wrong, the cut makes her look bigger than she really is, and the length isn't right for her. (Looking at the picture, she has a similar build to my teen and there's no way she could wear that skirt.)

A coworker dresses modestly due to her religion (she's LDS) and she said that they'd have more problems with the neckline of the blouse instead of the skirt. (I sent her a link to the original blog post here: http://adultonsetatheist.blogspot.com/). She said that the skirt was fine lengthwise and wasn't quite sure what the problem was.
