(46,119 posts)28. No, it would hinge on whether Mitt's grandparents ever lost their citizenship.
Mitt's grandparents -- George's parents -- both were born in the United States and thus were US citizens at the time they moved with their respective parents to Mexico. There is no indication that I've ever seen that either of George's parents ever renounced their US citizenship (just living in Mexico wouldn't result in a loss of citizenship). So its hard to see how George - a US citizen by virtue of the fact his parents were born in the US -- could be an "illegal" immigrant. Even if Mitts' great-grandparents (George's grandparents), who also were born in the US, had renounced their citizenship at some point, that wouldn't affect the citizenship status of their children who were born in the US themselves.
