but both times the reporters took the lazy way of just verifying that Republicans said what they said, and refused to make the judgmental call that what they said was untrue. That requires a second level of digging. Corporate media these days is too cost-conscious to do that kind of research. Campaign staffers and surrogates have to do that work for the reporters now.
