(27,835 posts)What changed around here was the TOS. It went from allowing "constructive criticism of Dems" to "any and all criticism being allowed. That opened the door to RW trolls who were free to register here posing as "disappointed Democrats" - who have, and continue to post nothing but anti-Obama and anti-Dem bullshit, often lifted right off RW sites.
What changed was going from Moderators to "juries", where jurors can vote to hide posts on the basis of whether they like/agree with the poster or not. As Skinner himself stated, juries are not expected to enforce the TOS - which has now been thrown out the window, because it is not required to be followed by anyone.
What changed was that RWers and other non-Democrats are now considered "long term DUers" due to their years here and their post counts. They can host and sit on juries - and are able to quash any discussion that is pro-Dem while allowing RW-sourced, anti-Dem crap to stand.
Many long-time DUers left this site due to the anti-Obama/ anti-Democrat posts that, years ago, would have been removed by the Mods in the past. Now many HRC supporters have left DU for the same reason.
To say that the "only thing that changed was who was in the White House" is nonsense - and you know it. You've been here as long as I have. You KNOW that the "rules" governing posting here have changed drastically since DU's inception; you KNOW that there are OPs that hit the top of the Greatest Page (and subsequently appear on the Home Page) that would have been removed and the poster banned in the days when DemocraticUnderground was actually a site for Democrats.
I have hundreds of friends on FaceBook who I "met" via DU in its early years - only a handful of them still post here. Most left during the "post any bullshit you want about Obama and the Democrats" phase - many more left as a result of getting "hides" from jurors who actually voted to hide posts with the comment "I never liked this poster, so I'm voting to hide whatever they say" phase.
I am fully cognizant of the fact that Democrats are the "big tent" party, and there will always be disagreements among the rank and file. But when certain posters - very prolific posters at that - have NEVER posted a single positive thing about ANY Democrat ever - well, if it walks like a RWer and talks like a RWer, it's probably a RWer - and pretending such posters are merely "disgruntled Dems" is either incredibly naive or downright dumb.
