(28,237 posts)to dismiss a patient of record, you have to have real cause. Believe it or not, it only takes one complaint with the State board to launch a significant investigation which can be calamitous. you'd be surprised as to what can happen over seemingly minor incidents.
A series of these issues can cause very big trouble professionally including suspensions and fines.
On edit: one cannot deny medical care due to the fact that the political expressions of the patient are at odds with the practitioners. If I were initially interviewing the patient and felt that he or she were a disruptive presence which would damage my practice that's one thing, it is quite another to technically 'abandon' a patient due to reasonably expressed opinions, no matter how 'vile', unless they posed a distinct and documented threat. My assumption that someone might become a problem is inadmissable and unprofessional by definition.
