But it will play very well when GOP governors run for reelection, because they'll claim that they fought to make their states safer but were held back by the Obama administration.

This is a rare opportunity for the US to act as a world leader in a good way, demonstrating compassion for the oppressed and desperate. We should recognize it as an honor to help these refugees rather than as yet another excuse to beat up on the powerless.
