(iv) is 18 years of age or older and, by means of a dangerous weapon, commits an assault and battery upon a child under the age of 14;

''Substantial bodily injury'', bodily injury which creates a permanent disfigurement, protracted loss or impairment of a function of a body member, limb or organ, or substantial risk of death.
Whoever commits an assault and battery upon a child and by such assault and battery causes substantial bodily injury shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than fifteen years

A toddler dumped by the side of a state highway is at substantial risk of death. If she hadn't been seen, she could have died of exposure. If she'd crawled into the street, obviously she could have been run over. She could have been killed by the fall if they threw her out of the car (as has been suggested in some articles).
Section 16. Whoever, in the night time, breaks and enters a building, ship, vessel or vehicle, with intent to commit a felony
whether he succeeds or fails in the perpetration of such larceny or felony, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than twenty years
Up to 60 years based on the charges listed in the article. All of those are the maximums; there also were significantly lesser possible charges with fines. Given the circumstances -- premeditation, vengeance, the age of the victim, I expect they'll go for something closer to the maximum.
