a few years after I left, the doctor at the main abortion clinic there was attacked by a nutjob who drove all the way up from Corpus Christi just to slash his throat nearly from ear to ear -- just before Christmas. How very Christian. (He survived.)

The odd thing was, at one point, due to a feud between factions in the local feminist movement, I was out there by myself. If the anti's had really wanted to do a hit, there would have been nothing I could have done except to run inside, lock the door and call 911. But apparently they preferred to stay outside and shame women -- most often as they came out, rather than in.
