Not so much Grinch, as much as irrational individuals merely in love with sounding clever. Were it only Christmas, I'd agree with your premise, however in the examples I've seen, it's pretty much the same posters who will argue anything simply for the sake of arguing... and yes, even to the point of arguing the denial of a childhood to children.
