4. This concept has been popular for about 10 years or more. Quite expensive, some are.

The problem is the conditions around the area. Some people have built things that are totally hidden, with sheltered entrances, etc. The problem for them is the perimeter and the locals who might know who has what stored and what is available. The fortress mentality only goes so far and hiding out for any length of time.

It is part of people arming up and going out and buying land. The assumption is that people in the cities will be living in war zone like hovels and they will need to protect themselves. I've seen very complicated plans on these and the blogs that some of these folks are into over the years. They even discuss how to make sure their wife, girlfriend, doesn't get pregnant because they don't want to bring any children into a post-apocalyptic world. This is big business and it's built on fear. Deep fear.
