In reply to the discussion: So my 75 year old Dad got hit with a Rick Scott voter purge gimmick. [View all]aggiesal
(10,685 posts)51. If a political party sent this out it would be considered illegal (Caging Voters) . . .
But since the Governor or Secretary of State or County Registrar Of Voters
(which can all be partisan towards one party) sent it, this is considered perfectly legal.
It is under the guise of cleaning up voter rolls of people who may have died,
moved out of the area or state or stationed outside the area or state.
Of course there is nothing stopping the Governor, SoS or the ROV from sharing
this information with their partisan party.
They usually send out these notices to people who are registered, but have not
voted in the last (x) elections.
It affects the elderly (death), College students (attend schools outside their
voting district), and Military Personnel (Soldiers stations outside their voting
district), disproportionately.
