Believe it or not some bird toys (yeah they should know better, the manufacturers that is) have zinc as well, Why after Connie got sick as a chick we never ever got them toys with a clasp or bell that could have that.
And no, a lot of people do not believe they are sentient beings, or for that matter pets. I am willing to bet the birds miss your wife, and my condolences on your loss as well.
