Birds have so much personality and become so attached to flock members it's like losing a lifetime friend. I hope your other girl is okay.
And please don't beat yourself up with guilt; birds will get into everything they can. We had a cockatiel that got into something when we thought we had bird-proofed the area before we let him out to play a bit, lost him within 4 hours of the onset of symptoms something was wrong.
