birds are special. i once had a cockatiel named cindy. she was such a sweet bird, but never got a chance to get old. one day when she was out of her cage, my oldest opened the door unaware, and off she went. guess i didn't get her wings clipped soon enough. i could hear her calling for me in the trees for a few minutes, then nothing.
it was painful!
