SALT LAKE CITY — There is a large police presence in downtown Salt Lake City Saturday night, and dispatch officials confirm officers are responding to reports of a shooting.

FOX 13 News first heard reports of shots fired in the area of the 300 South and Rio Grande Street just before 8 p.m. Salt Lake City Police dispatch confirms there was a shooting in the area, but no further details were immediately available.

Officers from Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Unified PD and Utah Highway Patrol were on scene and were observed to be attempting to get several large crowds of people to disperse from the area.

As of about 8:35 p.m., many people in those crowds appeared upset, with some yelling or spitting at officers.
