kind of platform any longer. Combat surface ships are just big fat missile targets in a traditional war, and next to useless in the kinds of war we are most likely to face in the foreseeable future.

OTOH, this is likely just a feint. A gigantic waste of money that they can drop in the budget negotiations so everyone can go to the sheeple and tell them how much they cut.
