It's complicated. I remember having to find the words at my own mother's funeral, and I wonder if my own daughter will ever be able to.

All the former First Ladies were there as well as Michelle, even Roslyn Carter, whose own age is now so evident (oh wait -- did Barbara Bush make it? she's another now very old). A lot of people here can't seem to grasp that, beyond what simple decency and dignity demand as regards public demeanor, all the occupants of the White House share something that no one else ever will.
