I don't know if you've noticed, but the Republicans have been going at Clinton full tilt for years, and have already extracted what juice there is from most of her alleged flaws.
So it's a fairly safe bet that she won't suddenly become massively less popular between now and November.
By contrast, Sanders has not had that experience of roasting. He's been handled with kid gloves by the Republicans, who would dearly love to run against him; if by some implausible catastrophe he were to win the nomination he would suddenly find himself having to face what Clinton has weathered for years, and more, and would probably melt down in the face of it.
