In reply to the discussion: Black Trump supporter hits white demonstrator [View all]erpowers
(9,445 posts)Just because one black person beats up a white person at a Donald Trump rally it does not mean that Trump's appeal is about jobs and not race. There have always been minorities who are more than willing to side with someone considered to be an oppressor, or someone trying to be an oppressor. It has been said that the house slave may have hated the field slave more than the plantation owner. A house slave's feelings about a field slave does not mean the system of slavery was not racist. It is possible that Clarence Thomas agrees whole heartedly with Antonin Scalia's statement that black students would likely be better off going to lower tier schools and that Affirmative Action hurts black students. Thomas' agreement with Scalia's statement does not mean it is not racist.
It is very possible that comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler is not hurting him with his supporters because his supporters also like Adolf Hitler. Donald Trump is receiving support from members of neo-Nazi groups and former and current members of the Ku Klux Klan. I doubt Trump would have the amount of support he has from racists if his appeal was jobs. If that is the case why do these people not support Bernie Sanders.
Bernie Sanders is also talking about bringing jobs back to the United States. Sanders has also opposed so-called free trade agreements. Sanders has called for reform aimed at Wall Street and corporations. In addition, even though Bernie Sanders does not have any businesses, he is not calling for a set of policies while doing the things he claims to hate.
