(3,825 posts)This was during the elections in the late 90's and early 2000's. I was a Democrat in a Republican state. I asked for a provisional ballot and was given one. They had open primaries at that time. Even when I returned to Missouri, they had my husband registered but they didn't have my name even though we both registered at the DMV when we went to have our DL's changed from Texas to Missouri. Even when you do everything you are supposed to, things get lost or misplaced or sometimes intentionally left out. It is up to each and every one of us to know what is going on in our states elections and the campaigns need to make a more concerted effort to empower people with that knowledge. Not knowing is not an excuse in law or in real life. I've worked elections many times and I always worked to let people who could vote, vote. If not, provisional ballots were used. This party isn't leaving me behind, but I know the republican's in my state want less people to vote and they are very happy with that. So go ahead and blame the Democrats, but I will remain and work to make sure that we elect people who are positively involved in the voting process and empower people to facilitate change, not in those who seek to make it a white, male only exercise. You don't like the system, then work in the system to get it changed. Allowing more religiously crazed republicans to be elected because of gerrymandering state districts certainly won't do it. Most of this can only be accomplished on the state level. That's where the work should be and needs to be done. That's what I'm doing, is that what you are doing?
