For a while, this was the presidential residence:

In a scene reminiscent of a 60's family sitcom, Gerald Ford, now President of the United States. leaves home for work at the White House as wife Betty waves goodbye.

After Ford died, his body was brought back to DC for a few days. I went down to watch the motorcade go by. A few days later, about noon on a cold winter day, the plane often used as Air Force 1 flew west, taking him away forever. I saw the plane fly over Alexandria. People on board could look down and see where the family used to live.
