Republicans have long exhibited a tendency to suspend disbelief and logic and march in line behind behind whatever they're told to do and believe by their leaders. They believed the Clinton Murder List bullshit. They believed the blowjob was impeachment worthy. They believed in WMDs. They've believed trickle-down tax cuts will increase revenues for a quarter of a century after the facts proved that down is the opposite of up. They believed the lies about Obama's birth certificate and religion and healthcare reforms.
Why on earth would they suddenly not follow Trump and believe he's God's Chosen President now that he's finished his hostile take-over of the Republican Party? Trump will win over the Wall Street bankers now that Cruz is out; Trump will win over the Christian fundies cause their preacher-charlatans will tell them parables about King David being a mack-daddy before being called; Trump will win over the rank and file Main Street Republicans because in their guts they're all conformist little sheep waiting to be told who to follow; and he'll win over the trailer park meth-head Republicans because they're all waiting to be told who to hate.
Are you waiting for their convention fight? Are you expecting them to fall apart? You're dead wrong. The Republicans will be extraordinarily unified and lockstep this fall. They have a candidate who can pull strongly among Independents and will have the base locked up tight.
Will we?
But is this Trump panic even realistic? Clinton is ahead of him by 6 whole points when you take an average of the match-up polls from April. When in history have the polls ever moved that much in just 6 short months?
