5. It is ALL a dirty, nasty business

Lithium batteries still need a lot of copper and aluminum. So you still need the huge copper strip mines.

And lithium mining and processing is still a dirty business.

I am not saying that oil sands are any better. Between the greenhouse effect and the usefulness of petroleum in chemistry and materials manufacturing, we HAVE to get away from petroleum. But in the interest of truth, we have to acknowledge that technology is dirty pretty much all around.
