35. In my opinion, and it is a well-considered one, the neoliberal

'free market' brand of capitalism supported by the 'slightly to the right centrists' is a far greater threat to this nation than the specter of a Trump presidency. Look around - broken institutions everywhere, the schools, massive student debt, the false idea that Social Security is driving us 'broke,' the 'there weren't enough votes' lie that gave us Obamacare (the truth is that it was against GATS, which Third Way Dems in droves supported in 1995).

We're NOT better off now by any means. Middle and lower incomes have gone down while the few at the top have had stratospheric rises in their incomes and wealth.

Big corporations are now able to 'offshore' profits and not pay any US income tax.

Drug and healthcare insurance prices have gone off the charts, and now even Americans 'lucky' enough to have insurance have shitty, rationed healthcare with financially crippling copays. The ONLY thing that's better about Obamacare than what we had before is that a few more people are 'covered.' But they'd STILL better not get sick, or they will be broke.

'Free trade' agreements like GATS, NAFTA, and CAFTA have cost this nation hundreds of thousands of good jobs - the kind you could actually get ahead on, raise a family on, and have reasonable economic security with. These jobs have been replaced by lower paying service jobs with fewer benefits and decidedly less economic security.

No, the 'slightly to the right centrists' in both Democratic and Republican parties have become so corrupt they've allowed what democracy we had in this republic to be so seriously compromised that the nation might not be able to recover.

All we have going for us is one voice in the wilderness, Bernie Sanders, who is telling the truth. Will we be smart enough to listen? Will we have the moral fortitude to fight a sustained battle against the forces of oligarchy for the soul of this 'great experiment' that is the USA, or will we quietly fall with a whimper?

Trump isn't the threat, Cyrano, though he has awakened the forces of fascism. This country took the path to insanity with the rise of the Third Way, and the abandonment of working class Americans by the Democratic party.

I think we underestimate the degree to which Trump supporters Fresh_Start May 2016 #1
