(54,778 posts)6. Pocahontas was a victim of the American White Man's Burden.
She was not allowed to remain a Native American in her community, but claimed by the English settlers who in turn indoctrinated her to Christianity, English manners and behavior, and gave her no avenue to return to her original community.
All that's left is elementary school legend that she saved Captain John Smith's life by putting her life before his. And that made her a "good" Indian.
I'm surprised by the silence of the Native American communities. When Trump attacks one, he attacks them all.
