9. He wasn't going to win. We would lose the seat even if he didn't retire.

We can gnash our teeth or not, but that is the cold, hard fact. He didn't have any supporters from the right, and there aren't enough Democratic voters here to hold the seat. even if we were all enamored of him. For the record, many of us aren't.

We had best focus on picking up seats elsewhere, because this one belongs to Nebraska*
