I don't understand how in the hell Donald Trump is the Republican nominee. [View all]

The Establishment loathes him. The donors hate him for taking away their influence. And the grassroots right-wing activists would rather have someone reliably ultraconservative like Ted Cruz.

And yet...the Republican Party (with the Speaker of the House and nominal leader of the party) is lining up from top-to-bottom to endorse this unbelievably shameless narcissistic clown - a man who has no loyalty to any party, anyone, or anything other than his own brand (which for some reason, a lot of people seem to equate with him being a business genius. I guess it is pretty shrewd to waste other people's money in a series of comically bad investments and bankruptcies...).

What's the deal? Are we really this far down the rabbit hole? This is truly surreal.
