Not so much that he scares or is hated by congressional Republicans...he terrifies their kingmakers I'm sure.

He absolutely pasted Koch pawn Bob Ehrlich in MD repeatedly. It wasn't civil, it was a bloodbath and Ehrlich was the only one bleeding. He went to war with state house Republicans and conservative Democrats and won there too. There's a reason why those of us that know him...I worked for his campaigns for Mayor and Governor...say things like "Marty's a political knife-fighter...you wouldn't think it but I think he likes the feel of blood between his fingers and on his shoes." He enjoys political warfare...maybe a little too much. It might scare you to watch him smile as he eviscerates opponents and critics. They hate him but they can't beat him.

He's a fierce partisan and campaigner; I'd expect him to make mincemeat out of anybody Trump could get to run with him. Not so much a great debater as just that really calm guy we all know someone like...that lets you hurt yourself by bloviating, then cuts you down. He's smart...I rarely praise anybody's intelligence, but Marty's smarter than me.
