Every one I can recall (my memory is not perfect though) have purchased their guns, legally, with proper I'd and background checks, from a dealer.
Your action isn't going to save any lives; it's just a way for you to make yourself feel better.
It's also an infringement upon the liberties of others. You know, unless you are into that sort of thing.

Yes, you can ask for ID but the ID doesn't have to be state issues according to the law...
