He followed ISIS ideology. I think in his case, he was a distrubed and very angry man, and the anger consumed him. ISIS was an outlet for that anger, as his parents and ex wife said he was not religious.
Many conservatives are filled with fear and hate, because they need an enemy and conservative media and radio gives it to them.
Fear and anger and hatred are what is behind ISIS and much of what happens here at home. Hatred against gays, women, undocumented workers, anyone will serve as an enemy when you are looking for a place to hang your hatred.
Conservatives tend to be more fearful so fall for this more often than liberals.
