In reply to the discussion: 10 of the Worst Terror Attacks by Extreme Christians and Far-Right White Men [View all]Orrex
(63,210 posts)31. No, that's not it.
look at the broad brush applied all day yesterday against those that support the 2nd Amendment as "gun humpers". Lot of hypocrites on DU.
Obviously that's not what happened. No one was attacked for supporting the 2nd Amendment. Instead, people were rightly attacked for working very hard to create the impression that they value their guns over human life. You will object to this, no doubt, but that's too bad. I've seen your posts, and I've seen the posts of other gun advocates.
Every single time a mass shooting occurs, gun advocates on DU spring into action to make sure that no one forgets how much they love their guns, and to hell with anyone who suggests that guns might be dangerous and should be better regulated.
It's not simply that they enjoy their firearms, and certainly not that they "support the 2nd Amendment," but rather that they react with such immediate cult-like kneejerk hostility to anyone who calls for tighter restrictions on firearm availability or ownership. And they explicitly posture themselves as defenders of freedom and liberty when in fact they're simply working on behalf of the NRA and the gun lobby.
Further, it's the shockingly insensitive pettiness of their objections that makes them targets for scorn, howling about "gun grabbers" and losing their shit when someone refers to an "assault weapon" or mistakenly refers to a "magazine" as a "clip" or vice versa. I've often (even yesterday) seen gun advocates try to stop the conversation in order to obsess about these matters of minutiae, showing clearly that they're more concerned about gun esoterica than about the bodies still strewn about in the aftermath of the latest massacre.
You are complaining that your deliberately self-selected group is subjected to criticism, and you equate this with racial and ethnic stereotyping. And let's not kid ourselves about the racial component, because you sure as shit weren't talking about Chinese Muslims when you posted.
So forgive me if I'm not sympathetic to a bunch of crybaby gun advocates who feel inconvenienced by the fact that their fellow gun advocates sometimes use their beloved guns to commit mass murder.

So both faiths are indicted by hateful acts. That's been my point all along.
