Your comments suggest you are focusing on the potential for firing all ammo out of a large magazine.

If you shoot a bunch of different rifles, you might find as I did, that the AR is really well designed and you can trade in parts and accessories so that it fits your body and use preferences more than any other rifle.

When hunting, I would probably use a 5 round magazine like many bolt actions do.

For self-defense in the home I have a 30-round magazine in my AR. I don't plan on shooting all those rounds at a single threatening person. Hopefully, I'll never have to use lethal force -- not ever. But I will say that the statistics involved with police-criminal shootouts suggest that having a decent sized magazine full of ammo is a good idea.
