require an AR-15 to defend his family. What are you going to be attacked by 10 people or what? If someone enters your home to rob you or whatever you have the right to defend yourself you are going to be at close range where an AR-15 would be a disadvantage. A 12 ga. pump or semi auto shotgun would be far better and it is very unlikely if you do fire that anyone in another room or next door is going to be killed. That argument is ridiculous.

My long gun of choice for self defense at home is a shotgun, a VEPR 12.

Depends on the shotgun. Some of the newer designs such as the Kel-Tec KSG and USAS-15

Rounds are going to penetrate walls, doors, etc and endanger family members.

It depends on the particular loads used. Some 5.56mm ammo from an AR-15 will penetrate less
