(688 posts)36. How would someone using an AR-15 be at a disadvantage when defending their home?
I can understand someone arguing that it's too much firepower for civilians (I'd disagree vehemently, mind you), but I can't see how a homeowner could plausibly think, "Dammit! My house is being invaded and all I have to defend myself with is this AR-15. I might as well be shooting spitwads. If only I had a shotgun!".
Both an AR-15 and a shotgun (in a defense configuration) make perfectly good home defense weapons.

My long gun of choice for self defense at home is a shotgun, a VEPR 12.

Depends on the shotgun. Some of the newer designs such as the Kel-Tec KSG and USAS-15

Rounds are going to penetrate walls, doors, etc and endanger family members.

It depends on the particular loads used. Some 5.56mm ammo from an AR-15 will penetrate less
