He was there in the streets, in the deep south doing the hard, real dangerous work of social justice. He was a freedom rider, and later worked with Carter running VISTA. He was participating in anti-war protests against the Iraq War in 2003, arrested at the Sudan Embassy protesting the genocide, and was one of eight U.S. Representatives, from six states, arrested while holding a sit-in near the west side of the U.S. Capitol building, to advocate for illegal immigration reform.

Jail isn't some cozy, cushioned, air conditioned seat in the House or the Senate, but John Lewis was willing to go there to bring attention to an issue.
This time his action was inspired by the Orlando shootings, and not the Democratic primaries.
No one has fought like John Lewis.
And no matter how plush the carpet, or air conditioned the room, some people couldn't be bothered to do more than stop by and get a photo op. Elizabeth Warren, on the other hand was there with them.
You seem to be unaware of John Lewis's record on the issues.
Here it is, and it is long and impressive. And we had John Lewis before we had Bernie Sanders, and we will have more people like John Lewis in the future. Just like there have been progressive Democrats here on DU way longer than you. Don't worry.
