In reply to the discussion: Why Do Republicans Hate the Clintons So Much? [View all]ConservativeDemocrat
(2,720 posts)17. Bill Clinton almost single-handedly repaired the Democratic brand
Before he was around, people honestly thought that Republicans were better for the economy than Democrats.
Republicans claimed he would ruin the economy, but instead it boomed, embarrassing them. They then focused almost exclusively on conspiracy theories and so-called "character issues", financing constant attacks on them. And when they finally did come up with something, it was prevaricating about a blow-job. They impeached, and Clinton's favorables went up. Theirs went down. The public didn't give a damn - good old Bill was getting good jobs for everyone, including late night comedians.
They couldn't stand it.
