(1,397 posts)Northumberland County VA is Republican territory. Our elections consistently go 60-40 Republican. Still, we Democrats are a close-knit, active bunch.
The Tea Party and county GOP have been busy papering the county with Trump-Pence signs. I just drove from home to building materials supplier 35 miles and two counties away. In my county there's a Trump-Pence sign every 1/4 mile, some closer. The FedEx guy who made a delivery to my house yesterday commented that he had not seen a SINGLE Hillary sign until he came to my house.
My first one was stolen. Well, actually some asshole poured flammable liquid on it and set fire to it one night about six weeks ago. I replaced it. I now sit on my porch from midnight until 1:30 - 2:00 AM on odd nights -- not every night, just random nights. I'm armed with a 100,000 candlepower spotlight, a Remington 12-gauge pump shotgun, and an AR-15 . . . all loaded. So far, I've had to pull the trigger on the spotlight twice . . . truck goes slowly down the road past my house, stops, turns around, switches off headlights and creeps up to my front yard. I wait to see the door open and someone get out and step into my yard then I light 'em up with the spotlight and chamber a round into the shotgun. You haven't lived until you've heard a round being chambered into a shotgun on a quiet, still night. Gets their attention. My sign stands untouched but it's a long time until the election.
My Clinton-Kaine bumper sticker on the back of my truck gets some attention, scowls, and middle fingers. I just smile, wave, and call back "Jesus loves you!!" Pisses 'em off big time. There is, of course, a .45 under the front seat.
