Plus, merely coming out strongly for something (just look at such things on the part of candidates for every office out there) means very little.
Perhaps the most essential thing to keep in mind if you're ever tempted to vote third party, is that every single member of Congress is a Republican, a Democrat, or an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats. Had Bernie Sanders become the nominee and then were to be elected, he'd have had all of the years behind him when he was in Congress and would probably have been quite effective.
Hillary Clinton has long been a Democrat herself and did serve a term and a bit more as a Senator. She knows how law-making works.
Jill Stein and Gary Johnson do not have anyone in their respective political parties in Congress. If Libertarians or Greens or any other party out there were really serious about someday electing a President, they'd go about having people run for all of the lower level offices out there, and over time would have a viable political presence. Instead, they run for President with little notion of what they'd really have to do if they somehow attained that office.
If you think a basic income is a good thing, then advocate for it through your own Senators and Representative. Maybe start some sort of lobbying effort.
