10. Republican congress critters would chorus about the lack of a mandate

And they would refuse to do anything because the new president wasn't backed by the popular vote, so the will of the people (a very slippery concept in Republican hands) would be that the new president had no mandate to govern. No appointments would be considered, let alone confirmed, and Republicans would piously claim the founding dudes' blessing for refusing to govern for another four years.

But since it was their guy who fluked through, we won't be hearing any of that "will of the people" nonsense, except as it is expressed by the voters of the electoral college.
